Seven Pequea Kids

Full group of Seven Pequea Kids. This group was completed in 1998 when I was in the 4th year of teaching at Pequea and Conestoga Elementary Schools. Self-portraits were part of my curriculum for all grades, K-6th. It is fascinating to see how each student would take the basic instruction and capture their personhood so boldly, a confidence that was strongest in the youngest of the groups. Inscribed, Back Row: John Q. Kindergartner; Jane Kindergartner; Evan K. First Grader. Front Row: Megan S. Pequea Elementary; Amber ? First Grader; Micki P. First Grader; Eric O. First Grader.

Four selected faces from the full group of seven. All of these faces were cast in bronze at Millersville University in Pennsylvania in 1998. This was my first foray into bronze casting sculpture. The 2D nature of these bronzes was more in line with my art to this point. All in the group of seven faces are free standing, with backs having hanging anchors to be able to be displayed on a wall. I envisioned them stacked, shoulders on the tops of heads to create a wall totem pole of kids.
